MARTINSVILLE, VA, MAY 5, 2026 – On Monday, May 11th, Smith River Singers, a non-profit choral group, under the direction of Dr. Pamela Randall, will present a free performance celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
More than 75 singers, accompanied by a live orchestra, will perform in the concert titled “America the Beautiful.” The public performance will be at the Galilean House of Worship in Martinsville, Virginia. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show begins at 7:00 p.m.
This year’s concert theme highlights the American experience, and the audience will enjoy a powerful blend of patriotic selections, traditional favorites, and contemporary pieces that reflect both the country’s beauty and the resilience of its people.
The performance will also feature a special guest. Victoria Howard, Miss Commonwealth, a local titleholder with the Miss Virginia Scholarship Opportunity, will welcome the audience. During her time as Miss Commonwealth, she has worked to support the creative arts and raise awareness of the neuroscience behind them. According to Howard, “The arts, especially music, are more than performance. They are a bridge to healing, connection, and understanding, often impacting lives in ways we may never fully see.”
Smith River Singers is proud to offer this performance free of charge, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the power of live choral and orchestral music. Platinum sponsors for the event are Katherine Boaz, In Honor of Pres Garrett; Gael & Smith Chaney, In Memory of Kitty Neal; John Fulcher; The Hooker Foundation; Kathy & Hank Long; Mary Ann McConnell; Jeff & Frances Stegall; Joe & Brenda Williams; and Dr. William Zimmer.
